Company Overview
WikiCamps Australia is a popular mobile app designed for travelers exploring Australia. It serves as a comprehensive camping and travel companion, offering an extensive database of campsites, caravan parks, hostels, day-use areas, and points of interest across the country.
Requirements gathering
The company has decided to completely redesign the application to create a modern, competitive, and future-ready experience. This redesign aims to enhance market positioning, align with long-term strategic goals, and drive revenue growth.

My Role
As the sole designer on the team, I led the end-to-end redesign of the application from the ground up. I collaborated closely with Product Owners, the Product Manager, and Business Analysts while managing key stakeholders. Balancing technical constraints, I made strategic design decisions and set priorities to ensure a seamless and impactful user experience.

Design System

Building on Google’s Material Design, I developed an accessibility-compliant design system for WikiCamps from the ground up. While ensuring consistency and usability, I introduced custom components where needed to enhance functionality and create a more intuitive experience.
Usability Testing an Validating design solutions
There were moments in the project where we faced critical decisions but lacked the clarity to move forward confidently. To bridge this gap, I conducted thorough testing and validation, ensuring that our solutions were not just assumptions but well-informed choices. By gathering insights and refining our approach, I helped steer the project toward success with confidence and precision.

Challenges during project
In my experience, perfect conditions are rare. There’s always a constraint—whether it's time, technology, or existing frameworks. But I’ve learned that true design innovation comes from working within these limits, finding smart solutions, and knowing when to push boundaries to create something better.
Technical Constraints – Our execution was limited by technical capabilities, requiring creative problem-solving within those boundaries.
Time Constraints – Strict deadlines required careful prioritisation, teaching me the importance of strategic decision-making.
Design Limitations – Working within a Material Design-based system restricted creative flexibility. I had to maximise the potential of existing components while finding ways to enhance the overall experience.
Results and Consumer Feedback

We received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback, along with valuable insights for improvement. By closely observing user behaviour and listening to their needs, we continuously refined the experience—making thoughtful changes that not only enhanced usability but also aligned with business goals.
